Ada M Royston Memorial Instrumental Music Scholarship
Eligible applicants must be a Northwest sophomore or junior instrumental music major, with the award being used during his/her junior or senior year. The recipient must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 to qualify, be in the process of completing the fourth trimester of study, and continue as a full-time instrumental music major during his/her junior year. The award is made on the basis of a recommendation from the instrumental music faculty and may be renewed for the senior year, provided the previous recipient reapplies and is selected. The student may be a wind, percussion, or piano major.
Art Education Scholarship
Awarded to an art major with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above. Recipient must be of sophomore standing or higher, of good moral character, and have attained grades of "C" or above in all art core courses completed at the time of application. Applicant must be a currently enrolled Northwest art major at the time of completion of application.
B D & Sue Wright Owens Scholarship
Recipient shall be an entering freshman and be considered a full-time student by the University. All eligible recipients must have graduated in the upper 25 percent of the graduating class and achieved a score on the ACT or SAT exams of at least the current U.S. National Average for that particular exam. Preference shall be given to students from Andrew, Buchanan, Holt, Nodaway and Worth counties in Missouri who have declared a major or minor in art, music, business (especially economics), pre-med, or computer science.
Betty Jean Lambert Pope Memorial Music Scholarship
Recipient shall be considered a full-time student by the University with a declared major in music and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Preference shall be given to a high school graduate from one of the following Missouri counties: Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Holt or Nodaway. Second preference shall be given to recipients who have graduated from one of the following Missouri counties: Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Harrison, Worth or adjacent counties. Academic achievement and financial need shall be leading criteria.
Bill Fields Memorial Scholarship
Recipients shall maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, have declared an academic major in the area of art and show financial need.
Bob & Mary Bohlken Scholarship
Recipient shall be classified as a full-time student shall have declared a major in Speech/Theatre Education, and must maintain a GPA of 3.0. If no applicant qualifies, then the award shall be given to a Speech Communication major. Academic achievement and financial need are leading criteria.
Brian and Jennie (Otto) Williamson Scholarship
Awarded to a vocal music major, pursuing either a Bachelor of Science in Education or a Bachelor of Arts degree, to be used during their junior or senior year. Recipients must be full-time students during the trimesters of the award. Applicants must submit a one-page essay detailing the following: explain how you will apply the vocal music education you are receiving at Northwest to your future career plans and why you are deserving of this award (please include your accomplishments and contributions to the vocal music industry).
Byron Mitchell Memorial Vocal Music Scholarship
Awarded to a vocal music major with first preference given to a tenor. Academic achievement and financial need are leading criteria.
C E Cook Drama Scholarship
Recipient shall be a theatre major of junior or senior status, which is of good moral character, possesses excellent academic standing and shows promise for excellence in the area of drama.
Dennis Dau Scholarship
Recipient shall be an entering freshman, a graduate of Maryville High School and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50. The recipient shall show exemplary citizenship and dedication to the band program. Recipients shall have participated in instrumental performance groups in high school and shall be involved in instrumental performance at Northwest. Music faculty at Maryville High School will select recipient.
Donald & Dorothy (Myers) Rice Scholarship
Recipient shall be enrolled full-time and shall have declared a major in art. Academic achievement and financial need are leading criteria.
Dr & Mrs Donald Sandford Scholarship
Awarded to a Northwest student who is a junior or senior music major. Must have a 4.00 GPA in piano and music history.
Dr Marvin D Combs Memorial Scholarship
Available to first-time and continuing students who are graduates of high schools in Worth, Gentry, Harrison or Nodaway counties, who have declared a major in one of the disciplines housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and who are enrolled on a full-time basis at Northwest. This scholarship may be renewed by maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.
Dr Peggy Ann Edwards Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to a returning active junior or senior member of Sigma Alpha Iota who is in good standing with the organization, has exhibited loyalty to the fraternity, and maintained an active participation in the group. The applicant must be a member of a performing ensemble at Northwest, have at least a "B" average in applied studies, a 3.00 minimum cumulative GPA in music courses, as well as a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.
Dr Richard Weymuth Choral Music Scholarship
The recipient shall have declared a major Vocal Music Education. The recipient shall be classified as senior and shall receive the entirety of the scholarship in their student teaching semester. The recipient shall be selected based on their demonstrated promise of success and future leadership as a P-12 choral director.
Earle I Moss PMAS Scholarship
Awarded to an outstanding sophomore or junior majoring in music at Northwest, who shows excellent ability in his or her applied area, to be used during his/her junior or senior year of study. The recipient must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 to be eligible and maintain it throughout the year of the award, as well as be a member of an instrumental or vocal ensemble. Students need not be members of the professional music fraternities to qualify, but membership in these organizations will be considered a positive factor when the selection committee makes its decision, as membership in these groups indicates a serious desire by the recipient to further the cause of music in the United States, and implies a professional attitude toward music.
Earle Moss Jazz Scholarship
Awarded to a Northwest student who currently is a member of the first Jazz Ensemble and who will return to Northwest to perform with the same group in the following academic year. Applicants must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50, be enrolled as a full-time student with membership in either the Bearcat Marching Band, Wind Symphony, or Symphonic Band, participate in a service organization, and demonstrate financial need.
First Year Theatre Scholarship
Award to a first time student - freshman or transfer - majoring in Theatre or Speech Theatre Education. Award amounts vary from $500 to $1250. The scholarship will require an interview with portfolio review and an audition. Awarded to full time music majors with a preference for instrumentalists. Academic achievement and financial need are leading criteria.
Gilbert Whitney Madralier Scholarship
The Gilbert Whitney Madralier Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one outstanding member of the current Madraliers/Northwest Celebration ensemble to encourage continued participation in the organization throughout the entire following school year. Applicants must be continuing music majors or minors studying applied voice, be a Madrigal/NW Celebration member in good standing, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50, while maintaining this GPA during the award year. They must also have contributed in a leadership role through office positions or committee assignments, as well as solo or small ensemble performances, within the Madrigal Group.
Hildegarde Dreps Scholarship
Awarded to a junior art major with excellent academic standing to be used during their senior year. The recipient will show promise in the area of art, with preference given to students in ceramics and painting.
Janet (Stuck) Jelavich Scholarship
Recipient shall be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA. Recipient shall have declared a major in theatre or speech/theatre education within the Department of Fine and Performing Arts.
Jerry Genochio Technical Theatre Scholarship
Awarded to a Theatre: Technical and Design major or a speech/theatre education major enrolled full-time with a 2.50 GPA.
John Smay Scholarship
Awarded to a sophomore music major who will be returning as a music major at Northwest for use during the junior year of study. The recipient will be selected from the applicants on the basis of having the highest GPA for the first three trimesters of work, maintaining at least a B average in applied lessons, and being enrolled as a full-time student during the fourth trimester of study.
Joyce Fink Hook Scholarship
Recipient shall be theatre major or speech/theatre education major. If two scholarships are awarded in any given year, then one each shall be awarded to a theatre major and speech/theatre education major. Must have at least a 3.00 GPA and be an active participant in departmental productions and have the potential to make a significant contribution to the field.
Martha Faye (Fouts) Woollums Music Scholarship
Recipient of scholarship shall be given to students from Gentry, Worth or Harrison counties who are pursuing the study of stringed instruments at Northwest Missouri State University. Student must have a minimum of 2.75. If student does not have the required course of study it can then include any Music or Education student at Northwest.
Merrill and Charlene Ostrus Staton Scholarship
Applicants must have completed five trimesters of work with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00, be enrolled in the sixth trimester as a full-time student, and return to Northwest as a full-time senior vocal music major.
Michelle Parman Scholarship
Awarded to a junior or senior art major with studio specialization in ceramics and/or painting. Recipient must maintain a 3.00 GPA. Academic achievement and financial need are leading criteria.
R Lucile & Vesper L Shelby Music Scholarship
Awarded to a sophomore of good moral character. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 to qualify and must maintain this GPA during the sophomore year. The recipients must be enrolled as full-time students at Northwest during the award year and major in vocal or piano areas, or be a choral ensemble participant.
Richard Allman & Margaret Peterson Three Dimensional Art Scholarship
Recipients shall maintain enrollment to be considered as full-time students and have declared a major to receive a BFA with an emphasis in Sculpture and/or Ceramics. Recipients shall maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Academic achievement and financial need shall be leading criteria.
Robert & ZoAnn Severson Jazz Scholarship
Awarded to a Northwest student who is currently a member the Jazz Ensemble and will be returning to perform with the group during the following academic year. Recipient must have a 2.00 GPA and enroll in private study.
Ron Houston Theatre American Dream Grant
Recipients shall maintain enrollment to be considered as full-time students, shall have qualified for the American Dream Grant program and shall have declared a major in Theatre.
Ruth Miller Scholarship
Awarded to an upper level continuing music major for use during the senior year of study as a music major at Northwest. Applicants must be a second trimester junior, have at least a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00, be a music major, and at least a two-year member of MENC.
Theatre Academic Achievement Awards
Receipients shall be continuting students majoring in Theatre or Speech/Theatre Education with a GPA of at least 3.0. Award amounts are as follows:
3.75 – 4.00 overall GPA = $200 per semester
3.50 – 3.74 overall GPA = $150 per semester
3.25 – 3.49 overall GPA = $100 per semester
3.00 – 3.24 overall GPA = $50 per semester
Theatre Gold Star Scholarship
Awarded to theatre or speech/theatre education majors each year with an equal distribution among classes (senior, junior and sophomores) when possible. Must have cumulative GPA of 3.00 and model for others attributes of character and service expected of an educated professional. Consideration will be given to those who intend to pursue advanced degrees in theatre or to teach theatre in public school systems or higher education.
Vernon J Barrett Memorial Scholarship in Music
Awarded to a junior or senior music major with a 3.3GPA. Audtion is required by department.
Ward Rounds Instrumental Music Scholarship
The Ward Rounds Instrumental Music Scholarship will be awarded to a Northwest instrumental music education major, from the wind or percussion area, for use during the junior and/or senior year of study. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 and maintain this throughout the award year, be enrolled as a full-time student, and continue with membership in the Bearcat Marching Band, Wind Symphony, and/or Jazz Ensemble. Potential applicants must have demonstrated leadership abilities in the Northwest band program, participation in a music service organization, and demonstrate financial need. The recipient may reapply for the senior year if selected for their junior year.
