Alice Corley Scholarship

Awarded to an entering freshman who is a prospective history/social science/pre-law major.


Calvin Widger Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a student that has declared a major in the area of Geography with a minimum GPA of 3.00 and who has demonstrated excellence in scholarship, commitment to the discipline, and potential for advanced study and financial need.


Chesley Research Grant

Recipient must be a Northwest History Department graduate student working toward M.A. in history. Grant should be used to defray travel costs for research specifically related to approved Masters theses. After the expenditure of his/her research money, the graduate student should submit a brief one-page summary of the work accomplished.


Clarence Henderson Scholarship

Awarded to a junior or senior history major with a cumulative GPA of 2.50.


Don Hagan Geography Scholarship

Recipient shall be a junior or senior and considered a full time student with at least a 3.00 GPA. December graduates do not qualify for the fall award. The recipient shall have declared a major in Geography. Academic achievement and financial need will be leading criteria.


Dr Jerry Brekke Scholarship

Awarded to prospective junior and senior majors in political science or public administration. Qualified candidates will be active in departmental student organizations and will have demonstrated serious academic application to both the university and departmental course work.


Dr Marvin D Combs Memorial Scholarship

Available to first-time and continuing students who are graduates of high schools in Worth, Gentry, Harrison or Nodaway counties, who have declared a major in one of the disciplines housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and who are enrolled on a full-time basis at Northwest. This scholarship may be renewed by maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.


Dwight & Eunice Gates Scholarship

Recipients shall maintain a GPA of 3.00, have declared a major in the area of Geography and show financial need.


Edward P Morgan Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female with a junior class standing. Candidates must be majoring in History or Social Science with considerable emphasis upon American History and Government.


George R. Gayler Scholarship

Awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior history or social science major with a cumulative GPA of 3.00.


H F Holland Memorial Scholarship

The H.F. "Hoot" Holland Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student that has declared a major in political science from Nodaway or Worth County. If qualified candidates from these counties are not available, other candidates will be given consideration. Available to prospective juniors or seniors, made on the basis of need and academic standing. Recipient must have a 2.50 GPA.


Harriet & Bill Swineford Scholarship

Recipient shall be enrolled full-time and shall be awarded on the basis of merit to a student with a major within the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences with a preference to a philosophy student.


Henry & Mary Turner Scholarship

Recipients shall be upperclassmen declaring a major in Humanities or Social Sciences, show financial need, and show good academic standing, having maintained a GPA of 3.00.


J Douglas Whitaker Scholarship

This scholarship was established for full-time students majoring in Public Administration who have an established history of selfless-service in one's community and/or country. Qualified candidates must have completed at least 30 credit hours, maintain 3.00 or higher cumulative GPA, and be enrolled in 12 hours or more per trimester. All applicants must be United States citizens and have at least one year of uninterrupted service with a public safety agency (fire, police, or emergency medical services) or be a veteran or current member of the United States Armed Forces, to include reserve components.


James Hurst Memorial Scholarship

Recipients shall be of good moral character with excellent academic standing, be classified as a sophomore, and show promise for excellence in the area of social science with a preference in history. The scholarship may be renewed for the junior and senior year.


John Harr Scholarship

Awarded to a junior or senior history/social science major/minor with a cumulative GPA of 3.00


Leslie No'el Swaney Memorial Scholarship

Recipient shall be classified as a junior or senior and have declared a major in history or social science education. Recipient shall maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA. Consideration will be given to financial need and other criteria of worthiness.


Mahala Saville History Scholarship

Recipients must be a history or social science major and have 3.00 cumulative GPA.


Mary (Killgore) & James Tyrrell Scholarship

Recipient shall be a full-time junior or senior with a declared major in Social Science Education.  The student shall have demonstrated a passion for teaching and helping people.  Preference shall be given to a student athlete.  December graduates may receive the award in its entirety in the fall trimester.


Natalie Weidner Memorial Scholarship

Recipients shall be enrolled full-time, shall have declared a major in the area of Geography, show a strong commitment to a geography career, and maintain a 3.00 GPA. Academic achievement will be leading criteria.


Peter J Wieland Memorial Scholarship

Awarded annually to a sophomore that has declared a major in the area of Geography and has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement.


Pi Mu Epsilon Scholarship

Recipient shall be a junior or senior math or statistics major. Based on performance in mathematics and statistics courses.


R B Killingsworth Memorial Scholarship

Recipients shall be of good moral character with excellent academic standing, be classified as a junior, and show promise for excellence in the area of social science with a preference in history. The scholarship shall be given for use during the senior year.
