Abby Leigh Cockrill Memorial Scholarship

Recipient shall be a junior or senior Elementary Education major with preference given to a Greek student. Academic achievement, effort, desire and sheer demonstration of the desire to teach young people will be the leading criteria.


Albert & Virginia Winemiller Scholarship

Recipients shall be enrolled full-time and classified as a sophomore, junior or senior with a 3.25 GPA.  Recipients shall also have declared a major in education, agriculture or mathematics.  This scholarship shall reward students with academic excellence and achievement, high moral character and good citizenship.


Amy P Elifrits Scholarship

Must have at least sophomore status and a declared major of Elementary or Middle School Education. A minimum GPA of 2.50 is required.


Andy & Anne Jones Scholarship

Recipient shall maintain enrollment to be considered as full-time students. He/she shall be a graduate of a Missouri Platte County high school and shall be an education major. Academic achievement and financial need will be leading criteria.


Arthur "Doc" Yates and Maxine Gooden Yates Scholarship

Education major with minimum sophomore status, 3.00 GPA, and committed to becoming a teacher. Applicants must demonstrate active involvement in a variety of activities contributing to personal growth and the betterment of Northwest.


Awalt G Steffen Memorial Scholarship

Recipient shall have declared a major in Elementary, Middle School or Special Education with preference to Missouri residents. Academic achievement and financial need will be the leading criteria.


Bart & Emma Maxwell Utterback Scholarship in Elementary Education

Recipient shall maintain a GPA of 3.50, have declared an academic major in the area of Elementary Education, and show financial need. Eligible recipients shall have graduated from a high school in the Missouri counties of Harrison, Grundy, Nodaway, Atchison, Gentry, Worth, or Daviess and shall be a university junior or senior in the year the scholarship is awarded.


Bert & Eula Cooper Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded annually to education majors who graduated from high schools in Gentry, Nodaway, or Worth counties in Missouri. Recipients shall be of good moral character, with excellent academic standing, have completed at least the first semester of their freshman year, and show promise as a future teacher.


Betty Schieber Scholarship

Recipient shall be a full time continuing student who has been formally admitted into the Teacher Education Program. Recipient shall have declared a major within the field of Elementary Education and maintain a 3.00 or higher overall GPA in major and education courses. Submitted applications shall include two paragraphs explaining 1) the applicant's experiences with young people and 2) what the applicant hopes to accomplish as an elementary teacher.


Beverly J & Edward J Shelton Scholarship

Recipient of this award shall have a major in education, graduated from the Independence Missouri Public School District or Nodaway county high schools. Preference will be given to students majoring in Music or Business Education.


Bobby & Shirley Kelley Excellence in Education Award

Must be admitted or demonstrate eligibility for admission to Teacher Education, have a 3.00 grade point or better overall, in major, and in education courses, and submit the following documents: a formal letter of application, a written statement entitled “What can I give to education that no one else can?”, and 2 formal letters of recommendation (one letter from a Teacher Education staff member and one letter from outside Teacher Education).


Chloe Millikan Memorial Scholarship

Two Elementary Education majors will be selected annually. Applicants must have completed two semesters at Northwest Missouri State University with at least 56 semester hours of academic credit and a grade point average of at least 3.00.


Donald D & Ann Beeson Scholarship

Recipient shall have declared a major in Middle School or Secondary Education area and shall be classified as a junior or senior. First preference for the award is for a student that has submitted paperwork for International Student Teaching placement. Second preference is for a student meeting the requirements that are participating in a Study Abroad program. Academic achievement and financial need are leading criteria.


Donald N Valk Scholarship

Recipients must be majoring in Special Education or a related field, have a GPA of 2.75, and show financial need.


Dr Gary Bennerotte Memorial Scholarship

Recipient should be pursuing the specialist in education degree in Educational Leadership. The recipient must have successfully completed at least one trimester of classes and be currently enrolled with at least six hours left to complete in the specialists in education degree program.


Dr Gaylord Morrison Scholarship

Recipients shall be an education major with a 3.00 GPA, and be actively involved in financing their education through employment. Financial need shall be a determining factor. Preference will be given to a graduate of North Harrison High School, Eagleville, MO. in upper third of graduating class who have met all other requirements.


Dr Mark J Anderson Elementary Education Scholarship

Recipient shall be a junior or senior majoring in Elementary Education. Financial need and academic achievement will be the leading criteria. December graduates may receive the award in its entirety during the fall session.


Dr Paul L Gates Scholarship

Recipient of scholarship must have a declared education degree, GPA of 2.50, show financial need, and be a member of men’s or women’s varsity track team.


Dr Shirley Steffens Special Education Scholarship

Recipient shall be classified as full-time, continuing student who has been formally admitted into the Teacher Education Program.  The recipient shall have a minimum 3.0 GPA, shall have declared a double major in elementary education and special education and be preparing to teach in the special education classroom.  This scholarship shall assist students demonstrating a passion for and potential success as a special education classroom teacher with first preference being given to applicants from Nebraska.  Additional preference shall be given to applicants who will be completing student teaching while receiving the scholarship. 


Dr Stuart Bintner Memorial Scholarship

Recipient shall be enrolled full-time, classified as a junior or senior, shall have declared a major in education and shall have a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Academic achievement and financial need shall be leading criteria.


Dr Wanda Walker Scholarship

Recipients must be seniors majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education and have a GPA of 3.00. Applicants must also be members of Student MSTA Chapter and be admitted to the Teacher Education program.


Edna Goodman Sutton Scholarship

Recipient shall be a full-time student in the School of Professional Education.  Recipient shall also be from the state of Missouri.  Academic achievement and financial need are leading criteria.  December graduates may receive the award in its entirety during the Fall session.


Eldon Steiger Scholarship

A junior or senior student majoring in education with a 2.75 GPA. Applicant must show promise as a teacher and demonstrate financial need.


Esther Forbes Knittl Memorial Scholarship

Recipient shall be a junior or senior Elementary Education major that is “truly passionate about elementary education.”


Eudora Wymore Memorial Education Scholarship

Recipients shall be an education major and have a GPA of 2.75 and completed a volunteer project with people who have a disability.


Everett W & Shoba Brown Rotary Scholarship

Recipient shall be a junior or senior pursuing a major within the field of education at either the elementary or secondary level and shall maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. Recipient must also be a member of SMSTA.


Heckman Family Scholarship

Recipient shall be a junior or senior, declared a major in any content area within Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Middle School Education, or Secondary Education. First preference will be given to those in the process of submitting paperwork for International Student Teaching placement, and second preference will be given to those participating in a Study Abroad program.


Herb Dieterich Scholarship

Will be awarded annually to a junior or senior education major who has expressed an intention of becoming a classroom instructor and has maintained a 3.00 GPA based on a 4.00 point system. At least one shall be awarded to a Secondary Education major.


Howard A McIntosh Scholarship

Recipient shall be an entering freshman, shall have a minimum high school GPA of 3.00, and have declared an academic major in the area of education. Preference shall be given to students from Mills County, Iowa. Nodaway, Worth, or Atchison Counties in Missouri may be considered if a student from Mills County does not qualify.


Hunt-Porter Scholarship

Recipients will be entering freshmen who have graduated from a Missouri high school, rank in the upper 10 percent of their graduating class, score at or near the upper 90th percentile on the ACT or SAT, demonstrate financial need and are pursuing a teaching career.


Jim & Ruth Williams Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming freshman with a declared major in education, with a preference given to students from St. Charles and St. Louis, MO.  Geographic preferences may be removed if there is not an eligible applicant from preferred areas.  Academic achievement and financial need shall be leading criteria.


Johnson-Bush Scholarship

Recipient must be a full time junior or senior student who demonstrates leadership, has a 2.85 GPA, and is majoring in Elementary Education, Middle School Education or Secondary Education. Recipient shall have demonstrated leadership among his/her peers and have a strong potential for becoming a significant contributor in the field of education.


Joseph & Rose Ryan Scholarship

Recipient shall be a junior or senior admitted to Teacher Education with minimum 3.0 GPA. Recipient must major in Elementary Education with and emphasis in Foreign Language or a major in Middle School Education with a minor in Foreign Language.


Joyce Luke Education Scholarship

Recipients shall be senior education majors with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  This scholarship shall be awarded to a student teacher candidate at the elementary, middle or secondary level with first preference given to a candidate planning to student teach in a rural area. 


Kenneth & Icel Thompson Scholarship

Recipients shall have a 3.00 GPA, have a declared major in Special Education, and show financial need.


Kent Barber Memorial Scholarship

Recipients shall be education majors, preferably with an interest in classroom teaching, shall have demonstrated high academic performance, and show financial need.


Lamkin, Glenn, Shepherd Scholarship

Recipients shall have declared a degree objective in elementary or secondary education and shall have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Selection of this scholarship shall be based on financial need.  A letter of recommendation will be required from at least one teacher who can speak of the student’s probability for success and know of the student’s desire to become a teacher.


Lois Utterback Beal Scholarship in Elementary Education

Recipient shall be a full-time senior who has been formally admitted into the Teacher Education Program.  Recipient shall have declared a major within the field of Elementary Education, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 and show financial need.  Preference shall be given to graduates of Missouri high schools.


Martha Faye (Fouts) Woollums Education Scholarship

Recipient of scholarship shall be given to students from Gentry, Worth, or Harrison counties who are majoring in Elementary or High School Education at Northwest Missouri State University. Student must have a minimum GPA of 2.75.


Martha Faye (Fouts) Woollums Music Scholarship

Recipient of scholarship shall be given to students from Gentry, Worth or Harrison counties who are pursuing the study of stringed instruments at Northwest Missouri State University. Student must have a minimum of 2.75. If student does not have the required course of study it can then include any Music or Education student at Northwest.


Mary Eulalah Adwell Scholarship

Recipient shall be classified as a full-time junior or senior undergraduate or graduate student who has been formally admitted into the Professional Education Program with a declared degree and corresponding program within Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. First preference shall be given to graduates of Missouri high schools located in Gentry or Nodaway counties, with second preference to graduates of Atchison, Holt, Andrew, Worth, DeKalb, Harrison or Daviess counties and third preference to graduates of any high schools in the state of Missouri.  The applicant will submit a two paragraph essay explaining the applicant's experiences with young people and what the applicant hopes to accomplish as an elementary teacher.
 


Mary Margaret Lewis Scholarship

The recipients shall maintain full time enrollment.  The recipients shall be classified as a University sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.00. The scholarship shall be awarded following the preferences listed below: 1.Graduates of Northeast Nodaway who have declared a major in Elementary Education 2.Graduates of Northeast Nodaway who have declared a major in Secondary Education 3.Graduates of Stanberry High School who have declared a major in Elementary Education 4.Graduates of Stanberry High School who have declared major in Secondary Education. At the Committee’s discretion, December graduates may receive the award in its entirety during the fall session.


Mattie Jo (Payne) Groom Scholarship

Recipients must be Elementary Education majors of good moral character who show promise of excellence in elementary education.


McIntosh Hall Scholarship

Recipient of this award shall be an Education major, from any class level, and be a full-time student in the fall and spring trimester.


Mike & Nancy Thomson Scholarship

Recipient shall be classified an Education major from one of four counties in Northwest Missouri: Nodaway, Atchison, Holt, and Worth. Academic achievement and need are leading criteria.


Mildred Galloway Fitz Simmons Memorial Scholarship

The recipient shall be classified as a continuing student (sophomore, junior or senior by the University) and shall be considered a full time student by the University. First preference shall be given to non-traditional students who have declared a major in Elementary Education. Second preference shall be given to students from St. Joseph, Missouri who has declared a major in Elementary Education. If there is not a qualified applicant meeting either of the preferences, selection may be opened to any continuing student majoring in Elementary Education.


Mrs Jo Ann & Dr Marvin Marion Memorial Scholarship

Recipient shall be classified as a senior and shall have declared a major in Elementary Education. Preference will be given to a student who desires to teach first or second grade. The scholarship is to be awarded for use during the recipient's student teaching semester.


Nancy Goff Memorial Scholarship

Recipients shall be graduates of Maryville High School having graduated in the upper third of their graduating class, shall be entering freshmen, and have declared a major in teacher education.


Nodaway County Recreation Scholarship

The recipients for this scholarship are chosen by the School of Professional Education and based on involvement with individuals with disabilities.  Contact the School of Professional Education to inquire about the application process.


Richard M "Dick" New Scholarship

Recipients must be a junior or senior with a major in Middle School Education, a 2.75 GPA, be involved in professional activities, and demonstrate financial need.


Robert O Gill Memorial Scholarship

Recipients shall be enrolled full-time, shall be a continuing student, and shall be education majors with an interest in classroom teaching. First preference shall be given to graduates of Lawson High School in Lawson, Missouri.


Roberta F Utterback Scholarship

Recipients shall maintain a GPA of 3.50, have declared a major in the area of Elementary Education, and show financial need. Eligible recipients shall have graduated from a high school in the 19-county district of Northwest Missouri State University and shall be a university senior in the year the scholarship is awarded.


Ron and Lorna From Spirit of Education Scholarship

Recipient must be an undergraduate student majoring in Elementary Education.


Shawna Severson Zech Memorial Scholarship

Recipient of this award shall be pursuing studies in Elementary Education or Special Education from any class level and shall maintain enrollment in at least 12 hours for the fall and spring trimesters. Applicant must submit a one-page essay regarding a challenge or barrier they have overcome to pursue and succeed in their education.


Staci McEnaney Memorial Scholarship

Recipient shall be a Northwest junior or senior Elementary Education major with preference for an Early Childhood minor, shall have graduated from Maryville High School, shall have a minimum cumulative 2.50 GPA, and show financial need.


Stalling Family Scholarship

Recipients shall be a junior or senior elementary education major enrolled full-time with a minimum GPA of 2.75.  Preference shall be given to students from Nodaway or Holt counties in Missouri.  Academic achievement and financial need shall be leading criteria.


Teacher Education Scholarship

Scholarships are awarded annually to junior, senior or graduate students in Education. Applicants shall have a 2.75 GPA and favorable recommendation of at least one faculty member. Letters from teachers and administrators are valuable.  One scholarship will be awarded to a qualified minority applicant.


Vance & Zeline Geiger Scholarships in Education

Teacher Education major, with a minimum 3.00 GPA, and who demonstrates financial need


William A. & Jo Karen Brown Scholarship

Recipient shall be enrolled full time as an education major. Recipient shall also be a U.S. Citizen from Platte City, MO and the Platte County R-3 School District. Academic achievement and financial need are leading criteria.
